The Havelock Board of Commissioners will continue efforts toward construction of a new city hall building during a meeting on Monday night.
The city is looking at bringing in a new architect after firing the previous one over concerns that the cost of the project would exceed the $1.8 million allotted from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development loan and grant. Commissioners are looking to form a committee to select a new architect for the project.
Also on Monday, the board is expected to get an update on a proposed senior meals program at the Havelock Senior Center. The program has received initial approval but concerns exist about possible budget cuts beginning in July.
Commissioners will also get an update on a grant application to the Recreation Trails Program for the McCotter Canal Greenway project. The trail would be designed to extend the Havelock connection to the proposed Mountains to the Sea Trail. If commissioners approve the grant application and it is accepted, the city would commit $14,492 as part of a 25 percent match on the $57,968 grant.
At the beginning of the meeting, commissioners will honor the Havelock High state championship football team and honor those working to make the city’s 9/11 Memorial.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Monday at Havelock City Hall.
