Two arrested on drug charges

More arrests are expected following an investigation stemming from the arrest of two Jacksonville residents on drug charges, according to the Onslow County Sheriff's Department.

Richard Garrett McAuliffe, 23, of Richlands Highway, and Denell Marie Sharek, 25, of Stallion Drive were arrested Friday after the sheriff's narcotics unit and members of the Jacksonville Police Department Special Operations division intercepted a marijuana delivery at Sharek's home, according to a press release from Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown.

McAuliffe was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana; possession with intent to manufacture sell and deliver cocaine; possession of drug paraphernalia; maintain a vehicle for controlled substance; four counts of felony conspiracy; felony flee to elude arrest; fail to heed for lights and siren; speeding; two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government employee and resisting a public official.

His bond was set at $120,000 secure.

Sharek was charged with two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana; two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine; two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia; four counts of felony conspiracy and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.

Sharek's bond was set at $60,000 secure.

Friday the Sheriff's Department received information from a narcotics detective in Columbus, Ohio, that drugs would be coming into the Onslow County-Jacksonville area, according to the press release.

Officers from the Sheriff's Department and JPD were waiting for the delivery, which occurred at about 3 p.m. Friday, according to Brown. A short time later McAuliffe arrived, took the drugs and left with Sharek in a 1993 Cadillac, Brown said.

McAuliffe rammed his vehicle into one being driven by two of the officers from JPD, according to Brown.

The officers were not injured.

A vehicle chase ensued from Stallion Drive, up Burgaw Highway and onto Old Maple Hurst Road, where McAuliffe and Sharek were taken into custody, according to Brown.

A package found inside the car contained four pounds of marijuana and seven grams of cocaine, according to the release.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the collision and issued several citations to McAuliffe.

This incident is still under investigation and other arrests are expected.
