Woman hurt in crash remains in hospital

Havelock News

A Havelock woman remains in Craven County Regional Hospital Monday following an crash on U.S. 70 in front of Wal-Mart Friday.

Grace Dickens Ewing was in good condition Monday, according the hospital officials.

Havelock Police Chief G. Wayne Cyrus said Monday that Ewing was cited for failure to stop for a red light and for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after the crash that occurred at 4:30 p.m.

According to Cyrus, Patty Smith Jones, of New Bern, was leaving the service road in a 2001 Chevrolet when she attempted to make a left turn on the U.S. 70 West. As Jones was proceeding through the green light, a 1997 Buick operated by Ewing entered the intersection eastbound, according to witnesses.

Ewing failed to stop for the red light and struck the Jones vehicle, according to Cyrus.

Jones was not injured in the crash.
