Havelock issues curfew for overnight
Curfew set from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
A state of emergency has been declared in Havelock, and a curfew will be imposed overnight, according to a release.
Outdoor activity is prohibited from 11 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday. The curfew applies to all residents except emergency and rescue personnel, public utility workers, hospital employees and members of the media.
A violation of the curfew carries a misdemeanor charge.
Mayor Jimmy Sanders signed the state of emergency that calls for the curfew Friday afternoon. Havelock has opened its emergency operations center to monitor Tropical Storm Hanna, which is expected to make landfall late Friday night or early Saturday morning and track through eastern North Carolina.
The most severe weather associated with the storm is expected overnight, and city officials want to make sure residents are indoors and safe should severe weather develop.
