A documentary about contaminated drinking water aboard Camp Lejeune and a local veteran’s fight for answers will be broadcast this month on a major cable network.
MSNBC officials announced Wednesday that they plan to air the film “Semper Fi: Always Faithful” as a special Feb. 24 at 10 p.m.
The 2011 film, directed by Rachel Libert and Tony Hardmon, focused on retired Marine Master Sgt. Jerry Ensminger and the 1985 death of his 9-year-old daughter, Janey, who spent her whole life aboard Camp Lejeune. His quest for answers leads to discoveries about a threedecade period of water contamination on the base and the harm the water may have done to base residents.
According to an MSNBC release, “‘Semper Fi: Always Faithful” unfolds like a detective novel, tracking the discovery of the contamination and taking viewers to the foreground of Jerry’s fight for justice. Viewers will get a moving personal look into the lives of those who have lost children or are sick themselves from the contaminated water.”
The program will be hosted by Lawrence O’Donnell of MSNBC’s “The Last Word.”
The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April and was short-listed for the Oscar nomination late last year.
