New Bern couple injured in wreck
A New Bern couple were injured Monday night when their car overturned on Crump Farm Road.
Julie and Michael Payne were traveling in the Brices Creek area when she ran off the road and hit a tree, according to Trooper T.L. Van Dyke with State Highway Patrol.
"She overcorrected and ran off the road on the right and then struck the tree," Van Dyke said.
The Chevrolet sedan overturned, and the Paynes had to be helped out of it by firefighters, Van Dyke said.
The wreck happened about 8: 15 p.m. Monday.
Julie Payne is 21 and her husband is 28. They were taken to Craven Regional Medical Center and then transferred to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Carolyn Fisher, a spokeswoman for the Wilmington hospital, said the Paynes were not admitted there.
No other information on their condition was available.
Fisher said a patient's condition is not typically available if that person is seen only in the emergency department and is not admitted to the hospital.
Van Dyke said he was able to talk briefly with Julie Payne on Monday night.
"All we can tell is that she overcorrected," Van Dyke said. "We don't think excessive speed was a factor."
Julie Payne is charged with failing to maintain lane control, the trooper said.
