Two vehicles collide at intersection of Hill Farm Road and U.S. 70 West
Two people sustained minor injuries Saturday evening after their vehicles collided at one of the busiest intersections in Kinston.
Kimberly Broome was driving her Honda Accord east on U.S. 70 around 5 p.m. and was proceeding through the intersection. At the same time, Sharon Smith was turning left on Hill Farm from westbound U.S. 70 in her Ford Ranger pickup truck.
The Staples shopping center, the Wal-Mart shopping center, McDonald's, Murphy's Express, Golden Corral, Holiday Inn Express and a movie theatre are all in proximity to that intersection.
Paramedics took Smith to the hospital; Broome was treated at the scene and released, said Sgt. Ray Petrusch of the Kinston police.
Both vehicles, their fronts smashed, sat at the edge of the driveway leading to the McDonald's along eastbound U.S. 70. Police officers blocked the right-hand lane, and traffic slowed as drivers merged left.
