Election filings continue

Candidate filing continues in Onslow and Carteret counties as additional candidates make official plans to run for municipal office.

Three people filed Wednesday for municipal seats in Onslow County.

Dick Macartney filed for the North Topsail Beach Board of Alderman, Larry Philpott filed for Swansboro Commissioner, and Hunter Hadley Jr. filed for one of the open Jacksonville City Council at-large seats. None of the three are incumbents.

Two mayoral races are now contested after nine candidates filed Wednesday in Carteret County.

Incumbent Beaufort Mayor Richard Stanley filed for re-election and will have at least one challenger in November's election. Jon Besch filed as a candidate for the mayor's seat on the opening day of the filing period.

The race in Pine Knoll Shores has two candidates as well, with Ken Jones joining sitting Commissioner Ted Lindblad in the bid for town mayor. Incumbent Mayor Joan Lamson had not filed as of Wednesday.

Bogue Mayor Ricky Taylor also filed for re-election.

Five towns gained commissioner candidates.

Bogue Councilman David Padgett is seeking re-election along with incumbents Newport Commissioner Jan Garber, Atlantic Beach Councilwoman Patricia Ide and Indian Beach commissioners Betsy Lane and Stewart Pickett, who serves as the town's mayor.

Newcomer Doug Browne filed as a candidate for commissioner in the Pine Knoll Shores race.
