Three Jacksonville families were displaced late Sunday after a fire broke out in a duplex off Hunters Trail.
At 11:35 p.m. the Piney Green Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Live Oak Court where the fire fighters found half of the duplex “heavily engulfed,” said Pete Triolo, chief of Piney Green VFD.
Pumpkin Center, White Oak and Hubert volunteer fire departments also responded to the blaze.
The fire eventually extended into the attic of the duplex and the fire departments were able to control the fire within 20 minutes, Triolo said.
The duplex where the fire originated is a total loss and the adjacent structure sustained some damage due to heat radiating from the fire.
The fire was caused by a malfunctioning dishwasher electrical outlet, Triolo said.
There were no fatalities and the Red Cross provided emergency shelter to the three families displaced by the fire.
