A former Onslow County Sheriff’s deputy charged with a 12-year-old sex offense has been released from custody on bond, jail officials said Friday.
Edward Anthony Negron, 34, of St. George Cove, turned himself in to the Jacksonville Police Department Thursday on charges of indecent liberties with a child related to an alleged 1998 incident involving a 13-year-old girl.
Negron served with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office from Sept. 9 to June 29 according to county human resources officials. He resigned from the Sheriff’s Office after the alleged victim’s father contacted Sheriff Ed Brown with the allegations in June.
Before being hired by the county, Negron served in the Marine Corps for 13 years.
According to Camp Lejeune public affairs, Negron is originally from Bronx, N.Y. He joined the Marines April, 2, 1996, and worked in the motor transport division. He was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from February to October 2005, and was promoted to gunnery sergeant Nov. 1, 2008. Negron left the Marine Corps on Dec. 9, officials said.
