Gasoline prices have increased by about 10 cents per gallon in the last six weeks, perhaps a sign of things to come as the weather warms and the summer driving season begins.
Gas was $2.83 per gallon for regullar unleaded at most Havelock stations, slightly higher than the national average of $2.75 as reported by The Associated Press. Prices are reportedly about 80 cents higher per gallon than at this time a year ago.
Still, analysts don't expected huge increases as the summer approaches, when demand usually increases with more people driving for vacations, according to The Associated Press. The prediction is that gas prices will likely increase to just more than $3 per gallon. The Energy Information Administration also expects prices to hit $3 per gallon later this spring.
Prices for one gallon of regular unleaded gas at 11 Havelock stations were:
Shell, U.S. 70 East - $2.84
Exxon, Ketner Heights - $2.84
Gray's Texaco, U.S. 70 - $2.75
Handy Mart, Main Street - $2.83
U.S. Mini Mart, Main Street - $2.83
Trade Wilco Hess, Main Street - $2.83
