Gov. Perdue launches eLearningNC.gov

New Web site offers online learning opportunities

Staff Writer

A new Web site launched by Gov. Bev Perdue is expected to allow students and life-long learners a place to enhance their educational opportunities.

“Over the last 10 years, technology has revolutionized the way we live and work and I am committed to revolutionize the way we teach and learn,” Perdue said.

eLearningNC.gov was created by a partnership between the Office of the Governor, the North Carolina Education Cabinet and the North Carolina eLearning Commission.

The new site provides K-12 students with the ability to take online courses that would normally not be available to them. College students and adults can also use the new site to take courses and learn new skills through retraining or advanced degrees.

“It will allow our teachers to take courses online and be able to access educational curriculum outside of a traditional classroom,” Lenoir County Schools Superintendent Terry Cline said. “It will also allow us to model, for our students, the 21st century skills needed in a globally competitive world.”

Greene County Schools Superintendent Patrick Miller also said the new site will play a role in educating his school district’s students.

The new site will provide access to the N.C. Virtual Public School, online courses from community colleges or universities and online career building.

“As chair of the North Carolina eLearning Commission, I am excited about the official launch of the K-20 elearning Web site, “Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton said. “My hope is that this Web site fosters a culture of life-long learning for all the citizens of our state.”
