Wooten re-elected to La Grange town board
Voters reject referendum on serving mixed drinks within town limits
LA GRANGE — David Holmes was among three La Grange town commissioner candidates elected Tuesday to the town board.
“I appreciate everyone’s support,” Holmes said. “I thank everyone who voted for me.”
Holmes received 280 votes, incumbent town commissioner Bobby Wooten received 315 votes and Veronica Lee received 239 votes.
Wooten also thanked La Grange voters for their support. He said he looks forward to working with the new town board.
“I hope to continue the good things going on in La Grange,” Wooten said. “The people’s vote shows they have confidence in the way I do my job.”
Town commissioner candidates Glenn Houston and Albert Gray didn’t have enough votes to put them in the top three spots. Houston received 138 votes while Gray received 227 votes.
La Grange voters also decided Tuesday they didn’t want to allow public establishments in their town the right to serve mixed beverages. Voters cast 249 ballots against establishments serving mixed drinks while 220 voters supported the move.
The economy was the major issue on the minds of La Grange voters. Holmes said he was pleased with voter turnout Tuesday.
“It was a good turnout for a local election,” Holmes said.
