Body of missing boater found

The body of a Carteret County man who disappeared last week while out fishing was recovered Sunday off Beaufort Inlet, the Coast Guard said.

John Warren, 49, of Newport launched his 17-foot skiff from Peletier Creek around 5:30 a.m. Nov. 11 and was reported missing to the Coast Guard late that afternoon when the family was not able to contact him.

Warren’s boat was located the next morning on the ocean-side of Shackleford Banks, but Warren was not with it.

Coast Guard Ensign Caleb Peacock said Warren’s body was located Sunday about two nautical miles outside of Beaufort Inlet.

A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Ameriah Garner Cemetery in Newport, according to obituary information.
