A Sneads Ferry man has been charged with stealing guns and selling them to his neighbor, officials say.

Michael H. Hansley, 30, of N.C 172, was charged with two counts of breaking and entering, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, four counts of larceny of a firearm and misdemeanor larceny. His bond was set at $10,000.

Hansley is accused of stealing guns from a man who hired Hansley as his handy man, according to a press release from the Onslow County Sheriff's Department. After the man reported that he saw muddy footprints in his master bedroom and outside of his bedroom closet and noticed guns missing from his closet, Detective Sgt. Scott and Detective Gibson went to the house and waited inside while Hansley did manual labor outside.

The detectives observed Hansley breaking into another residence and his employer's work truck, according to the press release. Hansley then entered the man's house and was arrested when he entered the man's bedroom.

According to the press release, Hansley confessed to stealing the guns and selling them to Johnny Ray Woods, 35, of Murphy Lane in Sneads Ferry. Woods was charged with four counts of possession of a stolen firearm and four counts of conspiracy. His bond was set at $7,000.
