Chili festival proceeds top $4,000

Havelock News

The 2008 Havelock Chili Festival raised more than $4,000 to benefit local programs and charities, according to the Havelock Chamber of Commerce.

Stephanie Duncan, executive director, said $4,397 would be given away from the proceeds of the event held Oct. 16 and 17 in Havelock.

Ten organizations that volunteered in various capacities at the event will be receiving donations, including the Craven-Cherry Point Child Development Center in Havelock, the Friends of the Library, and the Boys and Girls Club in Havelock.

The chamber will also put $1,000 toward its festival college scholarship endowment fund with Craven Community College.

An estimated record crowd of 25,000 people attended the event.

"It was extremely successful and we are already making plans to make it even more successful next year," Duncan said.
