MOREHEAD CITY — Friends and colleagues are stepping up to give back to a community leader in Carteret County.
Debbie Godwin of Morehead City, an active member of the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce, was recently diagnosed with an inoperable form of pancreatic cancer and is beginning radiation/chemotherapy treatment this week.
The Friends of Debbie Godwin have established a fund to assist with medical and personal expenses for Godwin, who has had to resign from her job as director of sales at the Hampton Inn & Suites of Atlantic Beach.
Godwin, who has been an Ambassador and Volunteer of the Year with the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce, has also had to resign from the Chamber Board of Directors and as co-chair of its Military Affairs Committee.
“She has devoted so much of her time to helping others, and it is time we help her,” said Jan Daughety, a friend and colleague.
Wachovia will accept contributions to the Debbie Godwin Fund at all Carteret County locations.
A fish fry will be held Friday to help raise money for the fund. Lunch plates will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of First Citizens Bank at 811 Arendell Street in Morehead City.
The cost is $10 per plate and all proceeds will go to the Debbie Godwin Fund. Advance orders can be made by sending contact information and quantity of plates by e-mail to debbiegodwinfund@yahoo.com. Payment is by cash or check.
