A matter of stretching bond dollars

As Onslow County Schools nears completion of its work on projects funded through the 2005 Public School Facility Bond Referendum, money is being transferred between projects based on need.

The main recipient, Jeff Hudson, assistant superintendent of auxiliary services said, is White Oak High School.

"After construction began, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Resources reviewed the stormwater runoff and mandated that an elaborate stormwater management system be installed at the school," Hudson told the Board of Education Tuesday night.

White Oak High received $281,048 for construction from remaining balances at Carolina Forest Elementary, Jacksonville High, Dixon Elementary, Dixon High, Hunters Creek Elementary, Hunters Creek Middle, Northside High, Richlands Elementary, Queens Creek Elementary, Richlands High, Sand Ridge Elementary, Southwest Middle, Swansboro Middle and Trexler Middle, according to the transfer spreadsheet.

The spreadsheet indicated the following transfers would be made:

White Oak High: $16,480 technology supplement from Richlands High

Stateside Elementary: $4,904 technology supplement from Richlands High

Blue Creek, Northwoods and Summersill elementaries: $16,000 each for sound equipment and $10,000 each for stage curtains from Richlands High

Blue Creek Elementary: $965 for its technology supplement and $6,900 for acoustic wall panels from Richlands High.

Northwoods Elementary: $6,900 for acoustic wall panels from Richlands High

Swansboro Elementary: $7,000 for acoustic wall panels from Richlands High

Bell Fork and Silverdale elementaries: $7,800 for acoustic wall panels from Richlands High.

Funds may still remain after these projects are completed, Hudson said.
