Historical marker for songwriter Ervin Rouse to be dedicated Saturday

COVE CITY - The state will unveil a historical marker Saturday morning to recognize the work of a Craven County native who is well-known for fiddle music.

Ervin T. Rouse wrote "Orange Blossom Special," a 1938 song about a passenger train. The N.C. Office of Archives and History will present the marker one-quarter of a mile from the place where Rouse was born.

The ceremony is at 10 a.m. at the intersection of N.C. 55 and Wintergreen Road. Jason Jones, chairman of the Craven County Board of Commissioners, will speak. Fiddlers from Eastern North Carolina will play some of Rouse's songs.
