Man, woman escape weekend house fire

Havelock News

Two residents of a Stately Pines home escaped without injury when their home caught fire early Saturday morning.

According to Stanley Kite, Craven County fire marshal, clothing on a bench touching an uncovered and damaged electrical outlet ignited, causing the fire to the home on Field Road.

Kite said a man and a woman escaped the fire through a bedroom window.

He said firefighters from Township 6 and Township 7 arrived at the home about 4:30 a.m. to see smoke coming from the one-story home.

The fire was contained mostly in the living room area, but Kite said that there was extensive heat and smoke damage throughout the house.

He said firefighters put out the fire quickly but remained at the home until 9 a.m. to put out hot spots and to try to get the smoke out of the home.

No firefighters were injured during the blaze.
