Juvenile arrested on assault, breaking and entering charges

Sun Journal Staff

A New Bern man was assaulted in his apartment in Hunter’s Landing on Friday evening after he woke up to discover someone trying to steal his computer system.

Capt. Sandy McKibbin of the New Bern Police Department said a juvenile was arrested on Friday and was charged with breaking and entering, assault, and damage to property.

McKibbin said the apartment resident had been sleeping when he woke up to find the juvenile allegedly trying to take his computer.

When the resident tried to get the intruder out of his home, the juvenile allegedly punched him, McKibbin said. She said the computer was damaged, but not stolen.

The resident called police and provided a description of the intruder. The juvenile was arrested later Friday evening and was placed in a juvenile detention center to await a juvenile hearing.
