17 artists performed at Lenoir Co. Fairgrounds
Kinston welcomed the first Kiss Fest on Saturday, featuring both local and national hip-hop artists.
The event was sponsored by Beasley Broadcast radio station 101.9 WIKS-FM and held at the Lenoir County Fairgrounds.
More than 3,000 people turned out for the largest outdoor jam session held this year in Eastern North Carolina. Kinston's own Roy Pridgen known as "Infamous Skee Money" and Several D.J. mixers from Kiss-FM helped get the crowd in a groove before seven national and 10 N.C. independent artists performed on one of two stages at the grounds.
Greenville residents Dee Carmen and Shay Smith attended Kiss Fest. Carmen's children Quay Carmen, 7, and Jay Carmen, 9, joined in on the fun.
"We wanted to come to Kinston to see all of the hip-hop stars," Carmen said.
Kiss-FM D.J. Supreme helped entertain the crowd. Supreme and his fellow co-workers said they were excited to see that Kinston was willing to host the event.
Program Director Teresa Terry said Kiss Fest plans to host the event in Kinston annually.
"It's important to bring urban music to the community, which can bring everyone together," Terry said. "It's all about positive change."
The event featured artists including Lyfe Jennings, Ray J, Slim, Maino, Vic and Lloyd. A crowd gathered close to the main stage to dance and sing along with the artists.
"People are smiling and having a good time," Terry said. "The urban community supports us enough to stop by and experience this event."
