Suspect in Trenton nightclub shooting turns himself in

TRENTON—The man accused of killing a local disc jockey turned himself in to authorities Monday.

Harold Krause Jr., 22, is charged with murder in the death of Alvin Smith Jr. Smith was killed last Wednesday while he worked at Fatt Daddyz Entertainment Complex, a nightclub in Trenton He was 24.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m.

“They were open for Christmas and he (Krause) came up there partying like everybody else,” said Detective S.L. Thompson of the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.

Thompson said authorities plan to say little about the details of the case. He would not reveal a motive or what happened to lead up to the shooting.

“There’s nothing being covered up here. Other agencies may have different policies, but there are some things we just don’t release,” he said.

Thompson said the case is still under investigation. He said it is unclear whether Krause and Smith knew each other, though both men lived in Jacksonville.

Thompson said Krause is the only suspect in the shooting.

Krause turned himself in at the State Bureau of Investigation’s office in Jacksonville. The SBI is assisting in the case, according to spokeswoman Jennifer Canada.

Krause was taken to Jones County and is being held in the jail there without bond. His first court appearance is set for Friday.
