ORIENTAL — An arrest in a rash of recent break-ins here also led to three men being jailed on drug charges late Sunday.
Stanley Eugene Boone, 43, of 814 Midyette St., faces a first appearance in district court in Bayboro Friday on five felony charges of breaking and entering and five felony larceny charges involving four businesses and a residence.
Pamlico County sheriff’s Investigator Bobby Baker said he planned to file charges in two other cases against Boone by Friday. Boone is in the Pamlico County jail, with bail set at $50,000.
Baker said his department was working with Oriental police on reports that involve between five and 10 other break-ins and thefts.
Baker said law officers believe the thefts were made by Boone “to trade for crack cocaine.”
He said the investigation led officers to get a search warrant for a house across the street from Boone’s, where three men were arrested and charged on felony charges for possession and intent to sell and deliver cocaine and marijuana.
Stephon Greene, 27, was identified as the resident of the 903 Midyette St. house, where he and Tony Moore, 23, and 18-year-old Khiry Jones were arrested.
Baker said police recovered quantities of ready-to-sell drugs, including more than 2 grams of crack.
Green and Jones remain in jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Moore posted bail early Tuesday afternoon.
Baker said the break-ins and thefts charged to Boone included three cases at the Silos, a restaurant on N.C. 55 near the town limits. Two nearby businesses broken into were the Oriental Sail Makers and Circle 10 Art Gallery. A fourth business was the Oriental Steamer.
Baker said money, food and other property were stolen.
The four men were arrested during the execution of simultaneous search warrants Sunday night.
