No matches found.Onslow library to host several events for Black History Month
Onslow County Public Library will host a series of family programs in observance of Black History Month.
The series, entitled African American Journeys, is a celebration of black history and heritage and will highlight contributions made by African Americans that have helped shape American life and culture. Programs will include Follow the Drinking Gourd at the Main Library in Jacksonville on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. Through story and song, this program will trace one of the routes that African Americans would have taken with Harriet Tubman to freedom. Participants will learn about the quilt stories of the Underground Railroad and design a quilt square of their own.
The Swansboro branch will feature Under the Quilt of the Night by Deborah Hopkins on Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. Participants will make a unity quilt that will be put on display at the library. The Richlands and Sneads Ferry branches will focus on stories and activities highlighting African American inventors and historical figures. The Sneads Ferry program will take place Thursday at 6 p.m., and the program at the Richlands branch will be held on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.
