The 2nd Marine Division has released more details about a Camp Lejeune Marine killed in Afghanistan.
Lance Cpl. Cody A. Roberts, 22, of Boise, Idaho, died Aug. 31, as a result of a hostile incident while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan, according to Division officials.
Roberts was a rifleman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 7, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward. He joined the Marine Corps in August 2006 and was promoted to lance corporal December 1, 2009.
He deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in June 2010.
His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
He is survived by a wife and child.
