Marines heading home

Havelock News

A group of about 120 Marines are scheduled to return to Cherry Point on Tuesday after a year-long deployment to Afghanistan.

The Marines are part of Marine Aircraft Group 40, a composite of aviation squadrons from Cherry Point, New River and Beaufort, S.C., according to a release from Cherry Point. They served primarily in the Kandahar and Helmand provinces.

The group includes Marines from Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 2, Marine Aircraft Groups 14 and 28, Marine Air Support Squadron 1 and Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14, all based at Cherry Point.
