Wilmington man charged with breaking into Mustang at area dealership
This story was updated at 2:38 p.m.
A Wilmington man has been charged with trespassing at two Jacksonville car dealerships and breaking into a Ford Mustang at one.
Nicholas John Matasich, 21, of Troy Drive, was charged Tuesday by the Jacksonville Police Department with possession of burglary tools, trespassing on posted property, second degree trespassing, breaking and entering a motor vehicle and resisting a public officer.
At about 3 a.m. Tuesday, an officer patrolling the area on N.C. 24 saw two people on Sanders Ford property, according to a press release from the Jacksonville Police Department.
When a JPD officer attempted to stop Matasich, he ran and jumped a fence in order to escape but was caught, according to warrants.
Other officers searched for the second person but only found Matasich's vehicle, according to the release.
According to warrants, Matasich trespassed at Sanders Ford, located on Lejeune Boulevard, and at Hix Motors, also on Lejeune Boulevard, where he allegedly broke into a 1996 Ford Mustang. According to warrants, Matasich had a crowbar, three cinder blocks, a screw driver, an automobile jack, a wrench and a pair of gloves. The tools were in plain view inside Matasich's vehicle, according to JPD.
Bonds totaled $15,000.
An investigation into the incident is still under way.
