Pamlico Shrine Club to hold fishing tournament Nov. 1
The Pamlico County Shrine Club will hold its second Annual Speckled Trout Tournament Nov. 1 to raise money for Shriners Hospitals for Children.
The event was scheduled for this Saturday, but it was postponed due to predicted rain and high winds.
The entry fee is $50 for adults, $25 for anglers in a special youth category for those under age 16. Because of the postponement, registration is extended through Wednesday, with the captain's meeting Friday at 6 p.m. The Pamlico County Shrine Club is l on N.C. 306 between Grantsboro and Arapahoe.
Fishing is allowed in the waters of Pamlico, Craven and Carteret counties.
The tournament drew nearly 30 entries last year, and three youth fishermen.
Tournament spokesman Dave Stewart said more than 30 merchants are providing gifts ranging from of meals to oil changes and fishing equipment.
Aside from the money winners, there are fishbowl drawings for other prizes provided by vendors.
Each participant can weigh in three fish for an aggregate total, and receive a ticket for a fishbowl drawing. The top 10 weights qualify for cash prizes, with the amounts based on the number of entries.
There will be barbecue sandwiches and drinks for sale the afternoon of the tournament, through the final weigh-in at 4 p.m. with awards at 6 p.m.
"We greatly appreciate all the sponsor support provided this and last year, especially during these low economic times," said Stewart.
Applications for event can be obtained from numerous sporting and boating goods stores or by calling Stewart at 249-1786.
"You don't need a boat to fish this event," Stewart said. "You can fish from a pier, shore or boat just as long as fish are caught with a hook and line. Come out and enjoy and bring the kids. That is what it's all about."
