Dive volunteers needed

PINE KNOLL SHORES — The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is recruiting new members for the 2010 volunteer dive team.

The program offers certified SCUBA divers a unique opportunity to dive inside the 306,000-gallon Living Shipwreck tank and converse with visitors about the many animals gliding around a replica of the U-352, a famous World War II shipwreck. Volunteer divers also assist with other programs underwater, as well as help care for animals and maintain exhibits.

In addition to SCUBA certification, divers must be at least 18 years old, be in good health and be willing to make time and training commitments. Friday is the deadline to apply for the 2010 program. Divers selected during the fall recruiting drive start their duties in January.

The application is available by clicking here. Visit the N.C. Aquariums Web site and see the Pine Knoll Shores volunteer section for information or call 252-247-4003.
