55 firefigthers respond to blaze
PINK HILL - A fire destroyed a long established restaurant in Pink Hill Friday morning, which took firefighters an hour to extinguish.
The Family Restaurant at 305 S. Front Street was founded in the 1970s and was a favorite among many Pink Hill residents. Co-owner Jerri Turner was inside the restaurant early Friday, preparing to open for business when the fire occurred.
Five volunteer fire departments responded to the scene at 6:12 a.m. Friday. Pink Hill Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Stroud said flames were shooting out the top of the building when they arrived.
Turner was able to get out of the restaurant with no injuries. According to town officials, a Beulaville resident was driving by the restaurant and called 911 after seeing the flames.
Stroud said the fire's cause is under investigation and the restaurant was completely destroyed.
There were no injuries during the incident.
