HAVELOCK -- A cab driver was robbed at gunpoint Monday night while picking up a fare.
Havelock police spokeswoman Diane Miller said the robbery happened in the 1200 block of East Main Street.
She said the driver told police that two Hispanic men got into his cab and asked to be driven to another location in Havelock.
One of the men put a handgun, thought to be a revolver, to the cab driver's head and demanded money. The driver handed over his money to the robber and both of the men got out of the cab and ran away.
A police dog tracked the men for a short distance before losing the scent.
Police think the men got into a car behind the First Flight Credit Union, where the track was lost.
Police said the robbers were described as:
n The armed man, medium to heavy built, with a slight Hispanic accent who speaks clear English. He is 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was wearing black jeans, a black ski-style jacket with an animal logo on the right front breast of the jacket. The jacket had the same logo on the back but was larger. He was wearing a blue beanie-style cap with a silver wing logo. He had a slim mustache, a badly pitted face and a wide nose.
n The second man is medium built and spoke only Spanish. He is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. He was dressed identically to the other robber. He had no facial hair. He has a distinctive scar from his left eye to the left corner of his mouth. He has a smaller scar crossing midway the larger scar giving the appearance of the letter "T."
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Havelock Police Department at 447-3212.
