Sun Journal Staff

A New Bern man who police visited as part of a drug investigation tried to jump out a window when officers came knocking.

Police apprehended Jeffrey Allen Pettigrew, 22, following a brief struggle. He was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At 9:15 p.m. Thursday, police served a search warrant at 1405 Rhem Ave. Police wanted to search the house as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.

Police approached the house and were met by Pettigrew, who ran from police and back inside the house.

“The suspect attempted to grab various items and tried to destroy them as he was attempting to escape by jumping out of a window,” according to Ed Preston, deputy chief of New Bern police.

Pettigrew is in jail with his bail set at $50,000.
