Officers, others honored at policeman's ball

A number of police officers and civilian workers at the New Bern Police Department have received awards.

The men and women were honored during the 9th annual New Bern Police Department Awards and Recognition Ball.

Those receiving awards were:

Detective Angela White - Police Department Employee of the Year.
Detective Malydia Owen - Department Letter of Commendation.
Computer Systems Technician Jeff Dixon - Award of Excellence.
Police officer Edward Thornton - Award of Excellence.
Police Department volunteer Charlie Mitchell - Award of Excellence.
Detective Jon Altman, crime analyst Derek Weidle, technician Catherine Conners, volunteer Rick Layton, volunteer Charlie Mitchell, volunteer Thomas Hartman and volunteer Karl Kromer - Chief's Unit Citation.
Sgt. Allen Wayman, police officer Billy Zerby and police officer Todd Conway - Chief's Unit Citation.
Police Department volunteer James Morrison - Department Letter of Recognition.
Police Department volunteer Rick Layton - Department Letter of Recognition.
Police Department volunteer Bob Blais - Department Letter of Recognition.
Dennis Kramer - Citizen Certificate of Appreciation.
Ashley Norman - Citizen Certificate of Appreciation.
Allen Garner - Citizen Certificate of Courage.
