Overturned rig diverts traffic

POLLOCKSVILLE - A tractor-trailer which flipped over one and a half times Wednesday morning, landing on its side, stalled traffic along U.S. 17 near Pollocksville in Jones County.

Motorists were told to take detours while debris and the truck were removed from the highway.

The State Highway Patrol said the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the road.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Troopers say the driver was hauling concrete barriers, which spilled out onto the highway.

The 7:30 a.m. wreck occurred near the intersection of U.S. 17 and N.C. 58 in Pollocksville.

The truck and trailer belongs to Temple Trucking of Chesapeake, Va.

The driver received minor cuts and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
