Progress Energy: Power restored to customers

Updated at 4:07 p.m.

A Progress Energy spokesman said that power has been restored to the nearly 500 customers without power off N.C. 24.

Dan Oliver said that a truck backed into a guy wire, which is used to support a pole, and that caused two phase wires to "slap together," knocking the feeder line out.

Oliver said the breaker at the substation was reset and power was restored.

Nearly 500 customers are without power on N.C. 24 near Montford Landing Road, according to Progress Energy officials.

The 477 customers are expected to have power restored at 4:30 p.m., according to the Progress Energy Outage Map.

A cause for the outage has not yet been determined, said Progress Energy spokesman David McNeill. Crews are currently working to get power restored as quickly as they can.
