New Bern man charged with possessing cocaine, violating probation
Police arrested a New Bern man Thursday night on charges of possessing cocaine and violating his probation.
Teddy Jabar Hargett of 1504 Phillips Ave. was on probation for previous drug charges. New Bern and probation officers searched his house about 8:15 p.m. Thursday and found a loaded handgun under his mattress. Officers also found two gun holsters, a box of ammunition and cocaine in the house.
Hargett is charged with probation violation, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cocaine. He was in Craven County Jail with his bail set at $200,000.
He may receive other federal charges under the Project Safe Neighborhoods program, which works to reduce the number of gun crimes by convicted criminals, said Beth Stevenson, the public information officer for the New Bern Police Department.
