‘Adopt-A-Sweetheart' program promotes pet adoption

Instead of traditional Valentine’s Day gifts like candy and roses, Onslow County Animal Services is asking people to consider adopting a new love.

Onslow County Animal Services will waive fees and provide opportunities for rabies vaccinations during this month’s “Adopt-A-Sweetheart” program.

“Adopt-A-Sweetheart Pet and give it a loving home on Valentine’s Day,” Onslow County Animal Services Director Alan Davis said. “The love that your new furry Valentine will bring into your life is immeasurable.”

“Adopt-A-Sweetheart” continues through Feb. 18 at Onslow County Animal Control Services, located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jacksonville. Adoption hours are: Monday through Thursday from noon till 7 p.m. and Friday from noon to 3 p.m.

County residents are also invited to the first “Adopt-A-Sweetheart” celebration, planned for Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at animal services. Patrons can have their photos taken with their new Valentine’s Day pet for $8 and receive free gifts with their pet adoption. The event will feature vendors and will give attendees the opportunity to obtain rabies vaccinations for their cat or dog for $8.

The regular pet adoption fee will also be waived Feb. 13 through 18. The only cost to adopters will be for the spay/neuter and rabies vaccination fees. Adopters can usually take their new pet home the same day. Accepted forms of payment include cash, Visa or MasterCard, according to a press release.
