Cristobal out, heat in
Tropical storm does little to area
Tropical Storm Cristobal spun by the coast of North Carolina Sunday, bringing little relief to drought conditions in the area.
However as the storm continues to move out, the heat is moving in.
The National Weather Service in Newport is calling for high temperatures in the middle 90s Monday and Tuesday before temperatures moderate late in the week.
Monday morning, Cristobal was well of the coast of North Carolina and continuing to move northeast with its 50 mph winds. The storm produced a few showers and some breezy conditions Sunday as it drifted off the coast.
Cherry Point recorded just a third of an inch of rain Sunday, though there were areas that received more rain in Cristobal's scattered bands. Cherry Point's highest wind gust of 37 mph was recorded Saturday as a band moved in well ahead of the storm.
The storm did little here to put a dent in a rainfall deficit that stands at about 9 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
However, the forecasters predict a better chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms later in the week, with temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
