A Carteret County woman was arrested Monday following an apparent domestic incident in which she is accused of ramming her estranged husband’s vehicle in a school parking lot.
Kari Ellen Edwards, 46, of 125 Greyson Lane, Newport, was arrested by the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office after deputies responded to the parking lot of Broad Creek Middle School in reference to a civil dispute over child custody.
According to information from the sheriff’s office, prior to deputies arriving, Kari Edwards allegedly rammed her silver Volvo into a red Chevrolet truck occupied by David Edwards and a passenger.
Kari Edwards was apparently upset that her husband, from whom she is reportedly separated, was attempting to pick up their 12-year-old son from school, Deputy Tami Thomas said.
She is accused of ramming the truck in an attempt to disable the vehicle so that it could not drive away, authorities said.
Authorities said Kari Edwards thought their son was already in the truck with her estranged husband but he was not. The son was standing outside and observed the incident along with an off-duty deputy, according to a release.
Kari Edwards was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present, aggressive driving and injury to property.
She was released from the Carteret County Jail Tuesday after posting a $20,000 bond that was set during a first court appearance.
