Lenoir County unemployment rate goes up

74 counties statewide see increase in rate

Staff Writer

Lenoir County's unemployment rate in October was 11.6 percent, which was among 74 counties that showed an increase.

"While some of the increases are seasonal, there is a continued effect throughout the state from this recession," N.C. Employment Security Commission Chairman Moses Carey Jr. said.

The ESC released the October unemployment rates Tuesday. North Carolina had 49 counties which were below the state's unadjusted unemployment rate of 10.7 percent.

Greene and Jones Counties unemployment rates decreased in October, as compared to September. Greene's rate was 10.1 percent while Jones' rate was 10.6 percent.
