Lenoir, Greene and Jones counties experience decrease unemployment in July
The Employment Security Commission of North Carolina reported unemployment rates dropped in Lenoir, Greene and Jones counties during the month of July.
In total, 86 counties across the state showed a decrease.
Lenoir and Greene counties both saw decreased unemployment but remain over 10 percent.
Although analysts welcomed the news, the unemployment rate remains above 10 percent in more than half of the state’s counties, indicating a need for new job-creation.
“There are more opportunities to get jobs,” Maria Santana of the Lenoir County ESC said. “We have seen an increase of job orders (around Lenoir County).”
Locally, Jones County experienced the biggest drop from 10 percent to 9.1 percent. The ESC says that 5,508 jobs were created in North Carolina during July. The number of people unemployed decreased by 13,654.
Numbers from the ESC are not seasonally adjusted for tourist industry jobs only available in the summer months.
