Lenoir County School teachers receive iPods

Prize patrol announces grant winners for technology study

Staff Writer

Shouting with joy, Banks Elementary School teacher Virginia Jones accepted balloons and a certificate from a prize patrol delivering good news on Friday for Lenoir County Schools employees.

Jones was among those who were selected this week to receive iPod Touch equipment for classroom instruction. Teachers from Rochelle, Northwest, Southeast, Banks, Moss Hill and North Lenoir were selected to receive a classroom set of the iPod Touch equipment.

“Each classroom set has 30 iPod Touches,” Lenoir County Schools media and technology spokesman Charles White said. “The iPods will help teachers integrate computer media and music into the classroom.”

White said the purpose for the program is to investigate the benefits of using this technology with students in the district. School teachers throughout the district applied to participate in the iPod program, which will be funded through available grant funds.

Jones submitted her proposal for the iPod selection committee named “Math in the 21st Century, iTouch, iBlog, iLearn” for consideration. A Lenoir County Schools prize patrol surprised Jones and 13 other teachers Friday morning that they had been selected.

Jones called her coworkers at Banks after she had learned she was a winner

“My students are going to be so happy,” Jones said. “We will be able to apply the iPods to all areas of math. We will also be able to do podcasts.”

The teachers selected will receive a Macbook laptop, a mobile cart to house the iPods, a wireless access point for the classroom and an iTunes gift card.
