Marine to receive Bronze Star

An officer with Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command will receive a Bronze Star with combat ‘V’ device today for heroic actions while deployed to Afghanistan.

Maj. John A. Moder, commanding officer for Company C of Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is credited with displaying selfless actions that directly contributed to the successful seizure of Jugroom Fort in the Garmsir District of Afghanistan’s Helmand Province on May 30.

Moder is now assigned to the Marine Special Operations School and is the officer in charge of assessment and selection.
