Accident reports

The following accidents were reported by the State Highway Patrol:

Accident time/location: Feb. 14, 9:51 a.m., 3.9 miles south of La Grange on U.S. 70.

Driver: James Lloyd Penuel, 37, 224 Hughes Plantation, Pollocksville, in a 2005 Chevrolet.

What happened: Penuel was traveling east on U.S. 70. The vehicle ran off of the left shoulder of the roadway, striking the cable median barrier and three poles. The vehicle came to rest in the median of U.S. 70. Penuel left the scene of the collision and failed to report same. The driver was later located.

Damages: Damages to Penuel's vehicle were estimated at $4,800; damages to the median barrier were estimated at $375.

Injuries: None reported.

Charges: Penuel was charged with reckless driving, failing to report accident.

Accident time/location: Feb. 11, 7:03 p.m., 3 miles south of La Grange on Jim Sutton Road.

Driver: Marcellus Lanier Sutton, 86, 2869 Jenny Lind Road, La Grange, in a 2006 Ford.

What happened: Sutton was traveling south on Jim Sutton Road. The vehicle ran off the road to the right and collided with a ditch. The vehicle came to rest in the ditch after impact.

Damages: Damages to the vehicle were estimated at $10,000.

Injuries: Sutton was transported to Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

Charges: None.

Accident time/location: Feb. 10, 1.09 miles south of Kinston on U.S. 258.

Driver: Anthony Robert Burtch, 24, MWSS 24 ENG UT, Cherry Point, in a 1988 Ford.

What happened: Burtch was traveling south on U.S. 258. The vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the road on the left. The vehicle then struck the ditch and flipped forward. The vehicle came to final rest upside down to the left of the roadway on a sign.

Damages: Damages to the vehicle were estimated at $3,000; damages to the Webb Automotive sign were estimated at $500.

Injuries: Burtch was transported to Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

Charges: Burtch was charged with driving left of center.
