Another wreck at Slocum Road
A woman and two children were transported to the hospital after another crash at the intersection of Slocum Road and U.S. 70 Friday morning in Havelock.
The wreck between a small compact car and a pickup truck happened at 11:30 a.m.
The woman, a toddler and an infant were in the small gray Volkswagon that was struck on the side by a gray Nissan pickup truck. They were transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern. Their conditions were not immediately available.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
Havelock police are investigating and have not released the names of those involved.
The intersection has been the site of frequent crashes, including one earlier this week on Monday.
Officials have proposed a flyover interchange at the intersection that would eliminate the traffic signal and create overpasses to allow traffic in and out of Cherry Point's back gate.
A preliminary study produced four options for the flyover. The N.C. Department of Transportation, city and base officials selected one that would cost an estimated $18 million.
The next step in the process is for an environmental assessment study to be conducted on the selected option. The estimated cost of that study is $300,000 to $800,000, and it remains unfunded.
