Forecaster: Sun may appear Saturday
The sun might begin to peak out by late Saturday afternoon, according to forecasters.
“In Onslow and Carteret County most of the rain should stay off to the north, especially the southern coast should stay dry the rest of the day, but the rain should resume later due to the surface and upper level low,” said Casey Dail, the duty forecaster for the National Weather Service in Newport.
The coastal flood advisory was lifted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and the forecast calls for an additional accumulation of ¼ inch or less.
Carteret County beaches are still under a high surf advisory and there is a high rip current threat, said Dail.
“Onslow County beaches are under a moderate rip current threat,” she added.
Wind advisories have also been lifted for Carteret County.
“We might have some gusts for the rest of the day, but for the most part winds should be between 15 and 25 miles per hour,” she said.
Rainfall totals reported between Tuesday and 7 a.m. Thursday were 9.2 inches in Swansboro and 8.57 inches in Sneads Ferry, Dail said.
Thursday night there is a 60 to 70 percent chance of rain, decreasing to 50 percent Friday.
