Police search for jewelry store burglar

Someone shattered front glass door and glass showcase to steal 20 14-karat gold chains

The Free Press

Authorities continue to search for the party or parties responsible for stealing 20 14-karat gold chains from a Kinston jewelry store Monday.

Around 3:40 p.m. someone broke into Maebelle M&M Inc. at 803 Hardee Road across from Vernon Park Mall and shattered a jewelry showcase, said Woody Spencer, public information officer with the Kinston Department of Public Safety.

“An officer was checking on an alarm call and found the front glass door smashed,” Spencer said.

Maebelle M&M Inc. owner Omar Shaer met the officer at the store 15 minutes later to assess the damage and said that the gold chains, totaling $1,000, were missing from the case.

The officer estimated damages to the door and showcase at $1,000.

Spencer said the case remains under investigation and that the KDPS does not have any suspects at this time.
