SLHS student uninjured in after-school wreck
DEEP RUN — High speeds and a bend in the road left one South Lenoir High School student — and her car — knee deep in an area creek.
Madison Moore was traveling west-bound on Liddell Road around 3 p.m. on Friday when her Ford Focus ran off the road and into a tributary of Tulls Mill. Trooper J. Cash of the N.C. Highway Patrol said she was going between 65 and 70 mph when she entered the right-hand curve.
Skid marks left on the pavement suggested she overcompensated after crossing the centerline.
It took a tow truck crew about 30 minutes to retrieve the vehicle, which was partially submerged.
Moore refused medical attention and left the scene with her parents. She was cited for exceeding a safe speed.
