New Bern police have arrested a man in connection with a stabbing that occurred Saturday afternoon.

Vincentie Hernandez, 21, of 1104 George St. was arrested Sunday night. Hernandez is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill for the stabbing of Pedro C. Garcia, 46, of 1104 George St.

Garcia is in stable condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Police eyed Hernandez as a suspect following the stabbing and located him at the Beech Grove Mobile Home Park on Washington Post Road Sunday.

Police were told that Garcia intervened in an argument between Hernandez and another man inside the apartment. Police said Hernandez attacked Garcia a short time later when he was leaving the apartment.
